These lost brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, mothers, and fathers were members of our community. They were victims of a violent jail culture that first deprives vital resources from those who need it most, and then polices, punishes, and kills those who most need care.
We hope to honor their lives in this fight to end the violence of jail killings and deaths.
We also acknowledge the lives of thousands of others who, since the jail was built, have died waiting for housing, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, healthcare, and other basic human needs because King County and our cities continue to prioritize incarceration over of care.
